About

My name is John Collins and I am the founder of BearLion Ventures. Providing construction and project management services, with over 25 years experience managing projects, international events, and operations.

Having worked effectively with Central and Local Governments, Universities, Iwi, public and private clients, consultants, and contractors to achieve the best outcome for client, project, and community.

With a diverse project, event and operational experience providing the ability to understand complex issues, see the way through and make the right decisions. Skilled at facilitating teams, whilst mitigating issues through proactive management.

With a passion for sustainability and working to create a more resilient built environment for our communities and New Zealand.

Old Course Hotel, St Andrews

Guestroom refurbishment

It was a huge privilege to work on and in one of the most iconic hotels on the planet. At the time I took it in my stride, but now looking back, with hindsight, what an amazing project.

The project comprised refurbishment of two floors of guestrooms, all completed within a live operational hotel environment. And yes, I did get a game of golf in.

2010 & 2011 Australian F1 Grand Prix

Pit Lane Paddock Manager

I had the amazing opportunity to be the F1 Paddock Manager, with responsibility for managing the pre-race fit-out of the F1 team garages, and specific management of pit lane and the entertainment area of the F1 Paddock.

A challenging, fast paced project and an experience in critical project management due to the immovable time and date that comes with an international event.

Rehua Building, University of Canterbury

EQ - Structural Strengthening, New Facade and Fit-out

I had the honour of being the lead Project Manager for the Rubix project team for the earthquake remediation, structural strengthening, and fit-out of the Old Commerce building, now the Rehua building for UC.

Providing the Education College with a new home, flexible teaching spaces, high spec project rooms, and open plan academic office areas; bringing the College’s facilities well and truly into the 21st century.
